Freshman ToolKits

Freshman Tool Kits are provided to each freshman student containing a multitude of prevention, educational information and useful items donated by state and local agencies.  The primary purpose of the freshman tool kits is to provide information to the student and parent making known all community resources available in State of New Mexico as well as our local community.  With the support of state and local agencies the tool kits provide a powerful way to deliver information to parents and students concerning important topics such as physical and behavioral health, depression, reproductive health, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol abuse. Tool kits are provided for 300 students in Mescalero, Ruidoso, Capitan, Carrizozo, Corona, and Hondo.

The transition from middle school to high school is a very challenging time in the lives of both students and parents. In an effort to support them, members of  LCCHC collaborated on creating a resource packet called the “Freshman Toolkit” for 9th graders in all Lincoln County schools. The Committee put together more than 300 Toolkits for distribution across Lincoln County and Mescalero.

The following groups helped put the Toolkit together:

  • Lincoln County Community Health Council

  • Lincoln County DWI Prevention Council

  • Eastern New Mexico University

  • Mescalero Prevention Program

  • Mescalero Responsible Gaming

  • Region IX Education Cooperative Prevention Program/School Based Health Services
